The humidity hit us the moment we stepped off the boat, a thick, salty haze that clung to everything. - Increase the blanking distance to avoid seabed ringing in the soft silt.
- Deploy during the post-monsoon window to capture the most extreme salinity shifts.
- Use heavy-duty reinforced mooring lines to prevent gear drift during tanker wake surges.
- Run a concurrent CTD cast to map the thermocline; otherwise, your sound speed corrections will be guesswork.
The port is expanding. As more medium-sized container ships move in, the demand for real-time current data will spike. The current manual dredging reports aren't enough. They need a permanent array to monitor how the channel morphology changes the flow. Without it, they are just guessing at the drift.
We spent the last few hours of the trip scrubbing salt off the equipment. It's a brutal environment, but the data is invaluable for ensuring these berths don't become bottlenecks.
